Here is Jemma Green’s story of DeRosa Park Diva owned by Candice Wilkins
Jemma Green of 18/24 Equine has been successfully campaigning DeRosa Park Diva who is owned by Candice Wilkins. DeRosa Park Diva (race name Majestic Dreamer) has had a successful career to date in both Standardbred classes but also success in the Open Show Hunter Galloway classes competing against mixed breeds of top show animals.
Callie being a show horse has been retained with this in mind, after retraining many off the track Thoroughbreds and loving every minute of being able to give an ex racehorse a second chance at life after racing. I wanted to broaden my horizons and work with the Standardbred and prove that they are not only just good for one thing, which I have been able to show with Candice’s beautiful mare.
What I love about Callie is firstly her temperament, is second to none, they are a lovely breed of horse to work with and are very smart. They put 110% effort into whatever you are asking them to do, even on those days when they may be confused they are just so willing and easy to work with.
I was brought up around horses , started riding at 3 years of age . All through school I attended Pony Club and started competing in eventing as a teenager.
My son and daughter where both riding from a very young age like I was and as a family we competed around New South Wales. In 1994 while competing at Berrima I had a nasty rotational fall that took the life of my beloved TB and put me in hospital for 6 months where I physically had to learn to walk again. Once better I had a short break from horses for awhile and when I came back into it I found my first Standardbred through the SPPHA NSW called Diamond River.
In 2015 we bought our property in Kurrajong and then we established Diamond Park Standardbreds. We have a Show team of 4 horses that we have successfully shown for many Champion and Supreme titles around NSW. I joined the SPPHA NSW committee in 2015 wanting to assist with getting this amazing breed out there and meeting others who share the passion.
I’m excited with where we are heading with the SPPHA NSW , with our current Harness Racing Off The Track Series and our first ever State Titles to be held in Tamworth next year . Looking forward to seeing more of our members at these events .
